International Relations
Campuses once geographically bound to one physical place now have the opportunity to expand and network between states, regions, and international locations. In addition, technology enables professors and students access to a world of information previously available only at high costs and over long periods of time. The desire for education created by a population that continually seeks education, further supports changes within the university. These forces continue to alter the structure of the university in three ways, which includes changes to the structure of governance, expansion of campus networks, and enhancement of university community partnerships. As part of our drive to attract the most promising students, promote our groundbreaking research and forge new links with business and industry, we have developed close relationships with talented people and likeminded organizations across the world.
There are four main strands to our International Relations:
|
Research - Joint research activity enables members to develop critical mass and competitive advantage and deliver research programmes of greater scale and scope than could effectively be delivered by individual institutions. |
|
Mobility – The International Exchanges offers innovative opportunities for graduate student and staff exchanges and secondments between members and with corporate partners. Gaining experience of working in different research and work cultures, establishing new contacts and enabling access to international programmes are some of the benefits to participants |
|
Distributed Learning - Sophisticated online delivery and sharing of up-to-the-minute learning material from across the partnership. Combined with agreed standards for quality and course accreditation, is at the core of our International activity. |
|
Virtual Seminars - Cooperation with our International University partners has been underpinned by a number of highly successful video seminar series. Viewed live and interactive at sites across the partnership, they provide a unique opportunity for staff and students to engage with world class researchers in their fields. |
The University has introduced three Innovative programmes in association with foreign Universities
Dual Degree Programme
The admitted candidates will do one year of study in a partner University & one year in VelTech. The one year of study in partner University will earn a PG degree to the students and the second year of study in VelTech will earn them a additional PG degree in the respective course. The students will have to complete 180 credits in University of Leicester and 40 credits in VelTech. There will be a separate credit transfer model for transferring the first year credits earned by the student in Partner University. The students will finish the first phase of their project in partner University and second phase in veltech. Students enter a dual degree program to accelerate their education or to enrich their professional portfolio by adding a new major.
Split Ph.D Programme
The Integrated Ph.D, is a full time programme of Five years duration for B.E/B.Tech completed candidates. In the first two years, they will do their post graduation which will be continued for Ph.D in the next two years. The whole Ph.D curriculum is designed without any deviation from both the University’s guidelines. The Split Ph.D programme is designed to provide opportunities for the candidates to conduct a part of their Ph.D work in a recognised foreign university/ research institution Vel Tech has signed an academic MoU.
Semester Abroad Programme
This programme enables the students to do their Eight Semester (Project Phase) in a foreign University under the guidance of faculty from both the Universities. VelTech – IUCEE Collaboration
As part of the initiatives in strengthening the foreign collaborations for the advancements in Research & Developments and ongoing academic activities, VelTech University has become the member of Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education(IUCEE). VelTech is one among the 35 institutions in India and one among 2 institutions in the state of Tamilnadu to be a member of IUCEE. The IUCEE was formed in the year 2008 with the vision to improve the quality and global relevance of engineering education, research and innovation in India, initially by imbibing global best practices from the US. This benefits the US and the world as well and provides good quality engineering talent in order to find solutions to the global challenges facing humanity such as energy, environment, health and communications. University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Pan IIT (organization of IIT alumni), International Federation for Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) are partners in this effort.
The below listed highlights the benefit of being the member of IUCEE
